Human beings are always in the centre of attention in Istvan Balogh’s works. His earlier works, often large format photographic enactments, referred to literary works such as ‘The Golden Legend’, or they transferred the visual styles of classical painting into contemporary contexts. Lately, the artist’s works have undergone a transformation from single images of perfect composition into a series of photographs in which improvisation is an important feature. Besides photography the artist has begun to produce video works. The element that remained is the interest in physical and mental situations of crossing; places and states of some fundamental insecurity.
